The Alsace
Departments: Rhin-Bas and Rhin-Haute
France's smallest region, Alsace, is located in the north east of the country and shares borders with Switzerland and Germany. German is widely spoken and regional produce includes sauerkraut and Kronenbourg lager. Medieval villages, rolling countryside, vineyards and orchards with the backdrop of the Vosges mountains make this an extremely pretty region. The regional capital is Strasbourg, a city that is extremely well connected by rail and road and property prices are consequently higher than the national average. The climate is temperate and roughly equivalent to that of the south east of England.
